Week 1: Why is E Safety so important?

  • Number one shows that it is other people on the internet that are not trustworthy and that children should be aware of this and the same way they wouldn't talk to strangers in person they shouldn't do this online either.
  • Number two also highlights that you should treat people the same whether they are online or in person.
  • Number three shows that when something goes on the internet it is no longer personal as the internet is a public place so your personal information should be kept to yourself.
  • Finally, number four shows that if there is ever anything that you are not sure about you should tell someone just like you would do at school. All of these top tips enable children to keep safe on he internet and also makes them aware of what they should avoid.

E Safety doesn't only effect Internet technologies but also effects other electronic communications. Such as: mobile phones, games consoles and wireless technology.
It highlights the importance to educate children and in particular young people about the benefits, risks and responsibilities of using information technology.
A few of it's main benefits are:

  • E Safety concerns safeguarding children and young people in the digital world.

  • E Safety emphasises learning to understand and use new technologies in a positive way.

  • E Safety is less about restriction and more about education about the risks as well as the benefits so we can feel confident online.

  • E Safety is concerned with supporting children and young people to develop safer online behaviours both in and out of school.
E Safety is also needed because it highlights both the negatives and the positives of using the internet and other internet communications. Also by making the children aware it enables them to make educated decisions when online.

Above is a link to a video that can be shown to children from reception and onwards to highlight some of the issues with the internet and internet safety. Its a simple straightforward cartoon which helps highlight the issue.
